On July 12th, 2010, Darrell J. Meng passed away from heart failure, surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of Florian and Helen Meng.
Darrell grew up on the family farm in Happy Valley. He began his own logging business at age 18 and built his home on family property with lumber he harvested from timber on that acreage. He and his wife, Sharon, have lived in that home since their marriage in 1957. From logging he branched out into excavation and eventually moved into the field of underground utility contracting under the name of D. M. Excavating Company,
Darrell was an extremely gifted man. He had a creativity that enabled him to fabricate countless tools and pieces of equipment. He had an extraordinary ability to fix just about anything. He loved being able to fix what others thought was beyond repair. His unique creativity, winsome personality and lack of ego earned him the respect of his peers.
Survivors include Sharon, his wife of 52 years, three children, Denise Amy (Bob), Dan Meng (Lora), and Donna Noren (John), seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and brother, Don Meng (Muriel).
We will all miss his sweet spirit and endearing sense of humor.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 17, at Mt. Scott Church of God, 10603 S E Henderson St. Portland OR 97266.
