Asta Noye Blanchard
August 31, 1924 ~ May 1, 2010
Asta Noye Blanchard died May 1, 2010 in Portland, Oregon. She was born in Orrington, Maine, on August 31, 1924, the daughter of Thomas Cook Noye and Henrietta Eliza (Hapworth) Noye. She was one of six sisters: Viola Hawkins (deceased); Blanche Harrison of Carrington, ND; Olivia Kneale (deceased); Norma Graffam (deceased); and Vera Byard of Cleburne, TX. Her one brother, Raymond H. Noye, was killed in battle in Europe near the end of WWII.
Asta grew up in the Bangor, ME, area, graduating from Bangor High School. After serving as a nurse in the Navy WAVES during WWII, Asta worked in Bangor, where she met and married Ernest Alexander Blanchard, who was in the Army Air Corp. As a young military family, they moved around the United States and lived for a few years in Germany. After Ernie retired from the USAF in 1962, they chose Portland, OR as the best place to settle and raise their two sons, Alan Ernest Blanchard and Barry Alexander Blanchard.
After caring for her family, Asta enjoyed craft projects and loved baking; creating cakes for a local deli and elaborately decorated cakes for birthdays and weddings of family and friends. As an active member of St. Rita's Parish, Asta joined the Women's Guild; sending cards to church members, helping with luncheons, and becoming supervisor of the Annual Spaghetti Dinner each Palm Sunday. Beginning in August of 1984, Asta worked for Loaves and Fishes - The Meals on Wheels People - for 21 years, serving as a substitute center manager and cook. Since her retirement in 2005, Asta continued to volunteer at Loaves and Fishes, the last time being on Wednesday, April 21, 2010.
Asta was indepedent, creative, and dedicated. She showed her love by doing for others. Asta is survived by her two sisters, her two sons, her two grandsons, Robert and Steven; and her great-grandson, Hayden. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
In Philippians 1:3, Paul writes, "I thank my God upon every remembrance of you." Asta, this expresses our love and gratitude for all you have done for us. We will miss you. ~Your Family |
